| Transcript | [Letter 2] [Page 1] South Woodslee Nov 16th 1901 Saturday My Dear Mother, Just a few lines to send with these books I thought You might like to read them. I suppose you have heard from Tilda's letter that Belle & I spent 4 days in Windsor. I must hurry up as Uncle is going down town & I will send this with him Jim has not come down yet but he might come before night It is snowing about right today but does not lie long Aunt & I was [sic] out for a six mile drive on Thursday the roads are all straight here running East & West North & South so we just went round the square & it came [Page 2] on to snow & we had to face it part of the way the horse had not been doing anying [anything?] this last week so he was in good humour & I was driving & it took me all my might to hold him in I can hitch them up now. I got a box of Bland's Iron Pills in Windsor every one told me I should take them after coming of [off?] the water. Jim sent down a washing to me on Monday nine pair socks two shirt & night shirt so I washed them all & ironed them today Belle was saying I saved him nearly a dollar. Well I have got used to the three meals a day I did not mis [miss?] it much. I will tell you what we get Porridge on the morning next Potatoes & meat or eggs & tea & bread. Dinner Potatoes & meat tea & Bread & sauce & Pie or Pudding. Supper Potatoes Tea & bread & some kind of fruit this is [sic] our common every day meals. Breakfast 8 Dinner 1 Supper 6 'clock Aunt was up helping Cass Yesterday I drove her up as it was snowing & [sic] could not walk I have not got a letter this [sic] it is more than a week. Jim is alrigh [alright?] again Everybody thinks I must be a ------- when I'm not getting homesick I don't stay long enough [enough?] in one place to get that way. They have 38 turkeys [Note at top of Page 1] here & 100 hens & not laying an egg. Eggs is only 20 cents a dzn. Good Bye [Goodbye?] M [Mary] Smyth |
