| Transcript | Prince Fredrick Town Calvert County Maryland June 21st 1861 My dear Sir I have just heard that my wife has let the Land out for five years, tis [it is?] my wish that you will not allow her to get any advance on the House. You will please write to me and say how the business stands, If it is necessary I will send me money over to pay the yearly rent. My Wife has written to me to sell the place saying that it was going down, but I know it is to let her Brothers have the money which I will never do. I am at my old home (Mr [Skinner?]) again, where I expect to remain as long as I am in America. I have not drank one drop of Whiskey, and never intend again. [Mr Skinner?] will vouch for the truth of it. I expect to make the largest crop for him that he has ever had. The war is going on stil, [still?] The South can never be conquered. she can have 1,000,000 of men under arms in three months - but she cannot open her ports for a long time, with out [without?] [assistance?] from the old country. owing to her not having ships we expected you to have helped the South before this.
