| Transcript | New York Jany 12. 1820 Dear Robert I was just thinking over old times & adventures which befell me in [P-?] [Petersburg?] when a thought struck me that I had promised to write you on my arrival home. There is no excuse I can give for not attending to it sooner you must therefore charge it to the a/c [account?] of friendship I receive the voluntary penitence of a neglectfull [neglectful?] wretch - as this letter or rather scroll is only introductory to our future correspondence you must pardon its shortness & set me a good example by writing a long one in reply. Direct your letters to me to the care of [Ogilvie?] & Gibson [torn] I have just wrote Lewis a letter therefore I am out of time now it being almost impossible for my dull brain to fill two letters in succession. The next I write shall be worthy the name of a letter. I shall look for your letter in about two weeks Yours most stupidly P. Vankeuren [Vankuren?] [addressed to?] Mr Robert Love care of [Messrs?] Peters & Tufts Petersburgh [Petersburg?] Va [Virginia?] |
