| Transcript | 20 20 East Alleghany [Allegheny?] A Philadelphia ___________________ Dear Father & Mother I have just arrived at above address safe [&?] sound. I had a re[all?]y good voyage taking altogether . I was very sick Friday Saturday [&?] Monday but after that I was alright. I arrived in New York on Monday a[t?] [8?] O clock we were then kept on the ship all night & on Tuesday Morning our boxes were examined & we were then taken on a ship to a place called "[Ellis?] Isle" where we were asked a few questions about where we were going & how much Money we had with us after that we were taken on another boat to the Railway when we got a train at after 8 O clock for Philadelphia. We arrived in Philadelphia about 10.30 pm on Tuesday night I took lodgings for the night & started this morning to find out William which I did after 4 hours looking. he has a splendid house & also well furnished he looks very well & is terrible stout he has just a little halt with one of his legs. he lives in a nice quite [quiet?] part of the city Katie is down in the State of Delware [Delaware?] enjoying holidays so [I?] have not seen her yet. I am just looking at [3?] gold watches lying on the Table where I am writing this. He made me take a bath when I came in & he then got me some dinner. he has no Servent. [Servant?] He says times are very dull in America just now, but I hope I will get some sort of a job soon. You have no idea of the grandeur of the house he has got. I have not got much more to say at present. Hoping all are well. Love to Father Mother Minnie, Ellen Sara Katie Alice Lilly & Tilly. Remember me to Jamey & Annie.
