| Transcript | Preston 24 Sept 1845 Dear Mother & Sister I take the present minute let you know I have got so far Safe for which I feel thankful as railway travelling is very dangerous in England from their careless & furious Manner - I had not left James Staunton 50 minutes going on the London line when we had a Slight collision - and would have been Serious but both drivers had a view of the danger 50 yards before we met a we both were nearly stoped [stopped?] yet so great was the remaining force that the engine was thrown across the lines no person was hurt - I have lost my box the man put it on board the Aurora and it has been stolen from among the Cabin pasengers [passengers?] Luggage but I will make the company pay for the loss if I can -- I have got my Machinery sent on before me - Ellen & James are well and the children - this is a good place for them only this spare portion of their house must be furnished well and it will then let the [they?] could have had the half sent of their house all along for it -- My love to you all I am truly M. [Moses?] Staunton I may let you hear that James Staunton & family are all well and my Journey will serve them all as I have taken time to See that all [stiles?] that I am going on with are Suited to each ---- [addressed to:] [stamped:] Mrs Staunton PRESTON GLASGOW Cabin dock Print Works SP24 SEP 25 Near Glasgow 1845 1845 |
