[Back of envelope] [Stamped] NEWTOWNSTEWART AM 5 0 JY 26 03 [Written] Mr John James Smyth Castledamph Plumbridge Co Tyrone [Letter 1] [Page 1] Essex, Ont April 4th 1903 Dear People All :- I am just after taking a music lesson and I am glad it is over I always get so nervous especially when I haven't it [sic] very well Well we have got snow on the ground in April here Yesterday was an awful cold day windy & snowy Today is much nicer and the snow is fast [melting?]. Well we had April fools here too. A lot was fooled but I neither made a fool of any one [anyone?] nor was fooled myself. I always forgot [forget?] about it. I enclose one of the invitation cards of Miss Hall's wedding I did all the writing on the envelopes for her I suppose I addressed about a hundred envelopes. They are making great preparations for it now. They have just finished the wedding cake four stories high. I also enclose a piece of my waist [sic]. That I have got made trimed [trimmed?] with black it is blue [Page 2] & cashmere my skirt I will also put in a piece of it I got it made with a train to it We got our Easter Holidays on Thursday that is the last day of school to the 20th I don't know where I shall spend them but I suppose in Woodslee I have got [two?] gingham waists [sic] to make so that will be my first trial. Well I think I have lost Liza's last letter somewhere around here so that I can't answer if there were anything particular in it. There was another hop in the Town Hall last night but I did not go. We all played a game of [Fluick?] instead. It is a game played with cards. I don't think I've got anything else particular to say so I hadn't better make the letter to [too?] heavy. I hope all are well. Did you stay for the dance in Sam Dunne's Granary. Good Bye [Goodbye?] M. [Mary?] Smyth |
