| Transcript | Chicago Spt [September?] 7th 1864 Dear Isabella I now sit down to write you these few lines to let you know that i am well hooping [hoping?] this will find you enjoying the same blessing i Received your Letter and was happy to know that the folks to home were all well you will be thinking long for this i suppose i have been with nick marton [Morton?] this 7 weeks by past and I was talking with him about you cumming [coming?] up and him and i are of opinion that it should be better for you to gow [go?] to Milwaukee than to come here as the rents are sow [so?] high and the [they?] wood [would?] but every thing is gowing [going?] up [---?] was prices shugor [sugar?] 40 ct [cents?] per pound and [---?] $2.00 i was thinking that it would be tho [the?] best for you to stop with Coulters to fawl [Fall or Autumn?] and i could gow [go?] out to where their father lives and get a place then for i have just Saw about enough of the Calamago [sic] folks as i want it is a second edition of the Island and if you were to come here you would have to associate with folks that i would not care for but you can come here and see for your self and i can let you have some money you can let the money be in the Bank i heard that william was left Calvins employ [employment?] i wll write to James Shanks to morrow [tomorrow?] if i am well give my best respects to mrs Rothwell and family and remeber me to [Hetty?] and Jane i am yours [affectionate?] Brother Sam Shaw |
