| Transcript | Vienna Dorchester County State of Maryland Nov 1st 1810 Dear Father & Mother Long have I neglected the daily incumbent upon me in writing to you, but either from not having an oppertunity [opportunity?] or otherwise I have left myself open to your remonstrance. I am happy to learn of your being in good health as also my friends which may the author of our being continue. I am thankful I am in good health and have been well ever since I left you Except a little this spring. I recd [received?] a letter from Brother Thos [Thomas?] in which I am glad to understand he is doing well. I am now in Philadelphia puchasing my fall good and finding a vessel gooing [going?] to my country I could not pass it over without informing you of my being on the land of Liberty. I have been keeping Store this year past and doing well My Brother wished me to return but at present it is out of my power as I am engaged in bussiness [business?] but should any of my brothers think it prudent and come over here I might be the means of getting them into business if they would be satisfied to leave their parents and relations but should I advise them and things turn out contrary to their expectation I should be blamed, and probably might be the cause of their unhappiness for life. Nevertheless if they think proper and venture as I have done I am led to believe they will live in more opulence than ever they can do in Ireland. I live in a part of the country where few of my country men [countrymen?] come to settle in and of course I am out of the reach of seeing any of the late comers [latecomers?] some of our countrymen do well others are on the other side of the question. but I find men that will take care and make themselves respectable they will be taken into the first rank of society. Nothing have I to inform you off that is very interesting as to politicks [politics?] I shall not say any thing [anything?] of; my last wish is that peace and harmony may prevale [prevail?] between our countries Our markets of grain are high flaxseed also I suppose you may not expect me over [stained] #PAGE 2 [stained] native country never [Unless?] as long [stained] I am a batchalor [bachelor?] some hope may remain of my return but God only knows the result.
