| Transcript | From: J. [James?] Banks Reford. To: His Aunt, [Anne or Matilda Reford?], [Antrim, County Antrim?], [Ireland?] Bloomfield, [New Jersey, U.S.A.?], Jany 25 '99 [1899?] Dear Aunt, Your letter of Nov. 11th was duly received, and should have been answered before. The end of the year found me very busy, and as I was congratulating myself that I saw a little quiet before me I was taken sick and am now shut up in the house slowly gaining strength. I hope to get to business next week, but don't feel much like it, as I have not yet been out of doors. It was an attack of [Grare-?] and lasted for eight days. The rest of the family are well having escaped the La Grippe which has been quite an epidemic with us this winter. Since last I wrote you I took a trip to Canada, and saw some of the Reford family. It seemed strange for me to to [sic] be addressing people as Mr & Mrs Reford. I found Mr & Mrs Wylie very pleasant people, and he did the honors. We first called on Miss Reford (Elizabeth) daughter of Joseph Reford [&?] Grace Wilson, she is pretty well on in years but very smart. [Then?] I met a Miss Stewart daughter of William who died in 1895. She is very anxious to get the genealogy of the family. The next day I met and spent the evening with Lewis and his wife. Had a very pleasant time. He is very jolly. The next day called on Mrs William Reford where I met her younger daughter who was home from school for a few days, also her son who is still in his teens. This was all in Toronto. Robert and family are located in Montreal. Mr & Mrs Wylie are going over the coming season, and will call on you. I have about given up tracing the family the Lewis's threw me all out. When I think I have it all right I find I am all wrong. Lewis of Toronto spoke a great deal of Lewis of [Beechmont?]. Now what relation was Lewis of [Beechmont?] to you & Father? I will drop this for my [head?] won't stand it. Trusting you are feeling better than when you last wrote, and that I may soon hear from you. No news from Belfast in a year. I take it for granted they are well for no news is good news. With love. Your Nephew, J. [James?] Banks Reford. |
